Vetiver

vetiveria zizanoides

General Description
The parent plant is a grass, Vetivera zizanoides Haiti, roots, wild, a tall perennial which originates in India, probably also in Indonesia. The rootlets have been used in the East since antiquity for their precious fragrance. In India the essence is known as "the oil of tranquility". Vetivert is deeply relaxing, so valuable in massage and baths for anybody experiencing stress. Honey textured and colored, this thickest of essential oils is the perfect base oil to anchor a blend since Vetivert is less apt to "take over" a blend than some of the other base notes. The oil is largely employed as a fixative and fragrance ingredient in cosmetics, perfumes and soaps. It is also used in food preservatives.

How It's Made
Vetivert Oil is steam distilled from cleaned and washed rootlets which are dried, cut and chopped, then again soaked in water prior to distillation.
